Those of us who travel to Seaside by air are particularly fortunate in being able to view the natural landscape of the area from a unique perspective. As you enter the traffic pattern, take note of the river estuary that enters the ocean just southwest of the airport and the forest wetland that borders it on the north.

This estuary, which joins three rivers with the Pacific Ocean, has deep cultural and historical significance, and is the site of the new Gateway to Discovery Coastal Natural History Center -- a starting point for exploration of the north Oregon coast. And it's right across the highway, within easy walking distance of the airport parking apron.
